that was intentional, and it taught us exactly what a real band already knows:
a song isn't one person doing everything.
it's six people, each owning one thing.
every song needs all six of these:
1. top line: the lead melody. the voice that carries the emotion.
2. baseline: the low-end foundation. what makes your chest move.
3. harmony: chords, textures, the sonic landscape around the melody.
4. rhythm section: the beat. the pulse. what makes people move.
5. structure: intro, verse, chorus, bridge. someone has to build the house.
6. lyrics & story: the words. the meaning. what stays with you after.
a bassist doesn't play drums.
a drummer doesn't write the chorus.
that's not a limitation, that's what makes a band a band.
